“Winter is coming!” Yes, indeed. But, fret not! Thanks to Arya, it no longer means facing the danger of the White Walkers. Instead, it means the time to rock your winter outfit has come!
If you think you’re ready for the upcoming winter, think again, especially if you want to stay classy during the hardest season of the year. No need to thank us like we thanked Arya Stark, but we have come up with 12 tricks to look classy in winter 2020! With these tricks, you will look as fabulous as you do during the summer.
1. Get a classy umbrella
Okay, first thing first. Winter means there will be more rain or snow. No matter what you have on you, you need an umbrella to protect yourself from looking like a wet dog. Please don’t say you’re going to carry around that old umbrella you got from the house or the silly looking one with some cheesy brand printed on it. To look classy, you need a classy umbrella.
Now, the question is: what is a classy umbrella? Take a look at this beauty. With its simple color yet classy golden rose handle, you will instantly forget about the rain pouring down as it boosts you with confidence. If you like to mix and match your accessories with your outfit, go get yourself a few of these in different colors. It doesn’t hurt to have too many!
2. Carry a functional yet stylish handbag
If you’re living in a place where it rains almost all the time during winter, you must carry your umbrella everywhere with you. For this, you need a handbag that can fit nicely. Take these handbags for example. They are big enough for your winter kits, yet still so stylish to sport with your outfit.
If you prefer carrying your umbrella by hand, you can get a smaller, simpler handbag like these ones. For winter, go for neutral, soft color. It can be a combination of white, cream, and pale green. Or any other earthy colors you like. Whichever you choose, keep in mind that you may need a waterproof material so your stuff will not get soaked when heavy rain strikes all of a sudden.
3. Wear a knee-long sweater or jacket
Rain or snow, it’s going to be colder during winter. Wear a sweater or a jacket that can keep you warm, but also give you a classy look. How about these knee-long sweaters? You can go for cute with the baggy style, or elegant with the body-fitting one. Either way, there’s something about them that looks so much nicer than the regular sweaters.
If you don’t like wool as your outfit material, or when it’s not that cold, you can also pick a nice layering jacket instead. The same goes for the trench coat for your rainy days.
4. Rock those knee-high boots
This is the best way to pair those knee-long sweaters you’re planning to get soon. Besides keeping your legs warm, these babies just slay! If there is a perfect time to wear them, this is it. However, since this is winter and not summer nor Cirque de Soleil, choose a neutral, earthy color like white, brown, black, or anything pale, and avoid bright, bold colors.
Quick tips: make sure you pick the most comfortable boots because walking in rain or ice is not fun and you surely don’t want to fall on a slippery road. This also goes with choosing not-to-high-heeled boots.
5. Layer up your favorite Spring or Fall outfit
Don’t like wearing a sweater or jacket? There’s another way to keep you warm: layer up! Wear underwear with thicker and warmer material, layer it with a tank-top or sleeveless, and then add another layer of undershirt. This way, you get to rock your stylish spring or fall outfit without risking getting cold. Who says you could only wear warm clothing in winter?
6. Go for classic jeans
We get that not everybody has the time to think of what to wear every day. Sometimes you just need to put on something quick. When this happens, go for classic denim jeans. These babies never die. Plus, they go with most outfits: from a simple t-shirt to a stylish jacket. It’s also easy to rub the stain off them, which is great when you have to walk on wet, slippery roads. And need we mention that they go so well with boots? How about this for a quick pick: jeans, t-shirt, boots, and jacket. Voila! Common stuff you found in the closet becomes a stylish look in an instant.
7. Pick a cool wool hat
Some say a wool hat is a wool hat and there’s nothing cool about it. But can you argue with these looks? If you pick the right size and model, a wool hat can be a great accessory. It’s like choosing any other hat. Picking the right color is also important. We’re going to keep reminding you to avoid bright, bold colors for your winter outfits. Take a look at some of these cool-looking wool hats to give you more ideas.
8. Use hair product
For some of us, winter means the inevitable bad hair days. The humidity, the wetness, and the entire recipe for messy hair are taunting us and keeping us from being classy. Worry no more, because we found the way to beat it!
First, pull your hair back to a high bun or a ponytail. If your hair is too short, just brush it from the front to back. Do them as neatly as you can and tie nice and tight. Those with short hair can use something like a hair clip. Then, apply just a little bit of hair products like hairspray of hair gel to keep them neat. Not familiar with this kind of hair product? Here are some options you can choose from, and how to apply it.
9. Apply moisturizer
If your problem is not humidity but the dryness in the air or the cold temperature, it’s not your hair you should focus on. Instead, focus on your skin, especially your face. When the weather is cold but dry, your skin will suffer. Therefore, it is important to apply moisturizer before makeup. It will keep your skin protected. Trust us, wrinkly dry skin is far from being classy.
10. Say no to musty smell, pack yourself a fresh perfume
Walking around on a rainy day can get you a little wet or damp at the very least, even if you have packed yourself with an umbrella and jacket. The dampness afterward, especially when you have no time and place to properly dry yourself, can result in a musty smell that lingers for a while. Surely, we all agree that this does not say classy at all.
Besides trying to dry yourself the best you can, always pack a perfume to freshen up. Pick a mostly fresh scent, like citrus. Since we’re on the subject of looking classy, why not go for branded perfume? It won’t hurt if people find out that you’re wearing a Gucci or Chanel, would it?
11. Getting around in a car
No matter how classy your outfit looks, walking around under the rain, even with your classy umbrella, can mess up your look. So, try to get around in a car the best you can. If you don’t own a car, perhaps it’s time to rent only for winter. Or you can also get a taxi and Uber yourself here and there. It’s best to stay dry and clean to maximize your classy look, so when you arrive in a business meeting or to meet your friends, all of your classy elements are intact and ready to shine!
12. Heavy rain? Stay inside!
Neither classy trench coat nor umbrella can protect your look from heavy rain. Try your best to stay inside when the winter climate is being the least friendly. If you’re stuck somewhere in public, perhaps it’s time to freshen up your look. If you’re stuck at home, you can always unwind and relax with a cup of tea in hand. Stay dry and classy, people!
With these 12 tricks, you will be ready to face the upcoming winter no matter what it brings, unless it’s a Game of Thrones spin-off about the origin of the Night King. Wet and damp weather is upon us? Come and get us! What do we say to the rainy day that may ruin our classy look? Not today!
